Somniat is a roguelike dungeon crawler that is set in the dream of the player character, the dog Ares. Somniat uses a resource system referred to as lucidity that acts as both the player’s health and mana. This lucidity resource is also a measurement of how invested the player character is in the dream.

The core gameplay loop of Somniat will revolve around traversing a dream dungeon fighting enemies. Central to the game is the lucidity resource that gives access to powerful spells. These spells will have two “free” charges, and then they start costing lucidity. Surrounding this will be a melee/ranged attack system that costs no resources but are less powerful and relics that empower the player in different ways.

The game will keep a high pace only pausing the flow at certain sections. The less lucidity the player has left, the more stress inducing the game will become. Music will change in accordance with the current lucidity and will have a major impact on the feel of the gameplay.
